branding mindset newsletter Apr 27, 2024

I’m changing the name of my newsletter.

New name:

no.nonsense.

Why “no nonsense”…?

I had a call with @zachpogrob to talk about how the PR30 challenge was going for me, and as we started talking about the videos, we got into the brand I’m trying to build.

He gave me some great advice on tightening up my brand’s message. My twitter bio was too generic and unclear. I had things like “Writing | Psych | Mindset”…blah blah blah. These things are a dime a dozen. You see this everywhere. And what does it all actually mean anyway?

Your social media bio is such an important part of your personal brand. It should clearly state what you’re about:

  • What are you actually trying to do?

  • What is the message you’re trying to get to people?

  • How can you help a person who comes across your profile?

  • What’s in it for them?

Attention is the #1 currency in the world right now. People won’t want to spend their time on your content if they:

1. don’t know what it is or 2. don’t think it will help them in any way.

So I had to get in the lab and think about what I’m actually about.

What am I trying to do here?

I’m trying to help people, sure…but how?

What do I have to offer?

I talked to some close friends and asked them what they thought.

Quick tip: if you have a friend who is in consulting, ask them for advice. It’s literally what they do: make other people’s things make sense to their audience. (cheers lad)

I told him, “i’m trying to build a digital empire.”

His response, “what does that mean though?”

He was right.

“Digital Empire” sounds great, sure…but what does it actually mean?

It feels like something someone would say who wants to do something but doesn’t really know what it is they’re trying to do.

So…”what I do I want to do?” I asked myself.

What’s at the core of what I’m trying to do here?

What can I offer?

We talked about it more.

He told me this, “when people ask me what it is you’re doing on social media, I tell them, ‘he’s super ambitious, and if he decides he wants to do something, he’s gonna do it. And he’s had various things where he’s put his mind to a goal, gotten it done, and now wants to share what he’s learned along the way with people to help them do it, too.”

This is something I’ve known, but it’s nice to hear it from someone else. Sometimes you’re so into something that it’s hard to see the bigger picture.

It’s something I’ve been talking about in various articles and videos, but it didn’t fully click for me until I had these convos yesterday and really thought about everything I’ve put out so far.

Reminder: reflection is key.

Conclusion…

I know one thing about me is for certain:

If I want to do something…like actually fully commit 🤝 to doing something, it’s as good as done.

It does take me a while to get to that point sometimes, I will admit, but I know that when I put my full focus on something, I’ll get it done.

I waited a while to start all of this. Months…years even. But now I’m here and here to stay.

If there’s a goal I decide I want to accomplish, I’ll find a way to make it work by sticking to it. No matter what.

I want to help people who were like me before I committed: highly ambitious people who are either scared to start or just confused on how/where to start.

In the videos, articles and newsletter, I’m talking to myself from a few months ago, before I started all of this. Because that time is hard. It’s a time when you need some help. You feel so lost but also hungry for change. You have all of this built up energy, but you just don’t know what to do with it. And it can be both debilitating and detrimental to your mental health.

I want to help people who were like me get out of that low period. I want to help people start the thing they’ve always wanted to start.

Business, social media, personal brand, videos, newsletters, getting in shape, learning a skill…whatever it is…

So many people suppress their talents and their ambition to be truly great because of the constraints that society and life as a whole has put on them. You can feel like life is happening to you instead of you making a life of your own.

I want to inspire people to say:

Fuck that.

Cut the bullshit. You know what you have to do. You know it won’t be easy. Stop overthinking everything.

Do you really want to die leaving your greatness on the table?

You know you can do it.

Commit 🤝

Enough is enough. It’s time.

And guess what?

You’re not alone.

I’m right here by your side. We’re going to do this together 🤝

I will show up every day to make sure you and I both reach our full potential.

No more waiting. No more overthinking. No more nonsense.

Let’s fucking do this shit.
